Indian cellco Airtel is preparing to extend tests of 4G in Nigeria, after completing a trial of LTE in Lagos, the African nation’s largest city.

The cellco’s local business, Airtel Nigeria, claims the Lagos trial is the first test of 4G in the country, and it is now gearing up for further trials in cities including Abuja and Port Harcourt.

Airtel Nigeria achieved maximum download rates of 37-Mbps in the trial, with peak upload rates of 10.6-Mbps.

“In the coming weeks, we shall take this success story to other parts of the country so that Nigerians will benefit from this innovation when finally unveiled,” says Rajan Swaroop, chief executive and managing director of Airtel Nigeria.
