Indosat has contracted Alcatel-Lucent to upgrade its data transport and mobile backhaul networks to improve the speed and efficiency of the Indonesian carrier’s mobile broadband offerings.
Under the deal, Alcatel-Lucent is supplying Indosat with an IP/MPLS based Carrier Ethernet solution and microwave packet transport system. Alca-Lu, in partnership with Datacomm, will also provide project management, consulting and design, integration services, installation, deployment and maintenance.
The transition will help Indosat address the exploding demand for services such as high-speed Internet access, video and social networking on mobile devices. The move will also prepare Indosat’s network for the introduction of the latest high-speed 3G mobile broadband services, and lay the groundwork for evolution to 4G LTE.
