Apple withdraws iOS 8.0.1 update

Apple has pulled an iOS 8 over-the-air update following reports of users left unable to make calls.

The iOS 8.0.1 update has also reportedly left other users unable to unlock their phones due to a glitch in the TouchID fingerprint biometric system, the Business Standardsaid.

The update was planned to fix issues including those affecting the HealthKit module, but Apple said it has withdrawn the update while it investigates the error reports.

In the meantime, the company has published instructions for rolling back iOS 8.0.1 to 8.0, and promised to release iOS 8.0.2 shortly.

Apple has also addressed the controversy over reports of iPhone 6 Plus handsets bending out of shape in users' pockets.

In a statement Apple said only nine customers have complained over bent iPhones, making the issue “extremely rare,” Bloombergreported. It is unlikely to happen in normal use, and the phones were precision engineered to be strong, the statement reads.

The company put the new iPhones through testing including “3-point bending, pressure point cycling, sit, torsion and user studies,” it adds.

Apple sold a record-breaking 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models during the opening weekend of sales.
