Axiata hires industry veteran to run region

Axiata Group has appointed Asian telecom veteran Donald James Rae to head up its regional operations, spanning eight markets in Asia Pacific.

Rae has taken the post of senior vice president, group business development & regional operations for Axiata Group, effective July 1.

Rae has more than 20 years’ experience in the telecom industry, including as COO of Philippines cellco Smart Communications and CEO of Essar Telecom in India. Most recently he was a consultant for Axiata on the turnaround program of Sri Lanka cellco Dialog.

Alongside this new appointment, Thivanka Rangala, who works in the office of CEO Jamaludin Ibrahim, will concurrently become the new head of regional development, reporting to Rae.

In turn, Suresh Sidhu is moving from head of regional development to Dialog in Sri Lanka as chief officer, enterprise and global business.

Nora Junita Hussaini, previously on assignment as CFO of Axiata Bangladesh will take up the new position of head, group treasury Axiata.
