Subscribers blame their mobile operator for network quality issues experienced on their mobile phone, even when they are connected to Wi-Fi networks a vast majority of the time, a Procera Networks survey shows.

Findings reveal that a third of mobile subscribers have changed their service provider due to perceived network quality issues, with over 25% switching operators three or more times in the last 10 years.

Despite experiencing network quality issues on Wi-Fi, nine out of 10 respondents believe the quality of their Wi-Fi connection is “better” or “much better” than the quality of the mobile network. This was backed up by Wi-Fi usage trends, with over half of those surveyed stating they were connected to Wi-Fi for 50% to 80% of the day.

Web surfing, streaming video, and social media proved to be the most popular services and are the most sensitive to quality degradations.

When asked to rate their experience of services from “A” (perfect) to “F” (unusable), one-third African and North American subscribers scored their experience of web surfing with an “A.”

Also, one-third of Asian and North American subscribers scored their experience of social media with an “A.”

Further, one-third of European subscribers scored their experience of web surfing and social media with an “A.”
