China's 3G userbase grows to 175m

China's 3G customer base swelled to 175 million in June, according to newly-released statistics from the ICT ministry.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed that 9.1 million new 3G subscriptions were added during the month.

New 3G users accounted for the vast majority of the 11.3 million new total mobile subscriptions added during the month.

Statistics from the nation's three mobile operators show that China Mobile maintained its 3G lead, with 67 million 3G customers by the end of June.

China Unicom added 3 million new 3G users, for a total of 57.3 million. China Telecom had 51 million 3G users at the end of the month, after seeing 3G net adds of 2.8 million for June.

China Mobile's total customer base grew to a huge 683 million during the month. The company is the world's largest operator by subscribers.
