Telcos, vendors and investors will meet in Myanmar this week for the nation's first telecom show CommuniCast 2014.

Representatives from more than 90 companies in the mobile, satellite and IT sectors will discus the market opportunity afforded by the nation's goal of achieving 80% mobile penetration within three years.

The event will involve conferences and seminars surrounding mobility and satellite services, including a seminar exploring the economic growth opportunities that mobile services represent. Mobile app developers will present their wares on the show floor.

The concurrent Myanmar Satellite Forum will provide an opportunity for the satellite sector to promote itself to the local telecom industry.

Myanmar has announced plans to launch its first communications satellite within five years as part of its goal of achieving satellite sovereignty.

“The timing of the show is ideal to celebrate the launch of Myanmar’s new mobile networks and also provide a platform to the next phase of development in the country’s ICT industry, which is likely to form a spur to major growth,” said Rupert Owen, the event director of organizers Overseas Exhibition Services.

“This is the first opportunity for many to really see the increasing demand and rapid development of the satellite and telecommunications industry in Myanmar.”

The Myanmar CommuniCast 2014 will run from November 18-20. The Myanmar Satellite Forum take place on November 19.
