Deutsche Telekom believes it has spotted a gap in the apps market place - for machine-to-machine (M2M) applications and services.

The German incumbent is launching what it claims is the world’s first M2M market place, which it aims to establish as an arena for hardware, software, apps and full solutions providers to peddle their wares. The operator is also gearing up to offer SIM cards and chips through the online store.

Thomas Kiessling, chief product and innovation officer at Deutsche Telekom, promises the marketplace will offer whatever solutions companies need to utilize M2M. “The Marketplace brings together global supply and demand for M2M solutions in a straightforward way, thereby lending greater dynamism to M2M business,” he states.

Deutsche Telekom’s store covers nine main sectors – energy, healthcare, transport and logistics, automotive, consumer electronics, retail, industrial automation, and public sector and security. Vendors post detailed descriptions of their products, and can include technical specifications.
