Malaysia's Digi.Com grew its revenue for the first quarter by 4.2% to 1.79 billion ringgit ($504.9 million) on the back of strong subscriber growth, particularly in the postpaid and internet segments.

Profit declined 1.2% to 479 million ringgit as a result of a one-off tax gain in the same quarter a year earlier.

Digi added 270,000 customers during the quarter, with its postpaid subscriber base growing to a three-year high. Internet subscribers surged 30.6% to around 6.6 million.

Data revenue consequently increased by 17.7% to account for 42.3% of total service revenue for the quarter.

The operator increased its 3G population coverage to 87% and its LTE footprint to 33% by the end of the quarter.

“We have made strong inroads in bringing quality internet services to more Malaysians nationwide fueled by significant improvements in our network performance and coverage, the proliferation of a wider range of affordable smartphones bundles... and innovative digital service offerings,” Digi CEO Albern Murty said.

“These efforts have helped drive continuous growth in internet adoption, and encouraged ownership of more than one device which is connected to the internet.”

He said Digi is committed to spending the same on capex this year as in 2014 – 904 million ringgit – as part of efforts to continue driving this growth.
