Canadian and US courts have approved the sale of Nortel's CDMA and LTE assets to Ericsson. But the Canadian government may still interveneto keep the assets local.

Huawei has openedan LTE laboratory in Texas, USA. It will provide a demonstration platform for prospective US and Canadian customers, as well as test LTE systems before deployment.

Alcatel-Lucent has purchased UK-based content delivery network vendor Velocix for an undisclosed sum.

Chinese telecom authorities have restored SMS services and some business and government-related internet services in Xinjiang. Access was barred following ethnic riots in Urumqi on July 5 which killed nearly 200 people.

New Zealand's newest mobile operator, 2degrees, will launch on August 5.

Australian ISP Internode has purchased three high-resolution Cisco telepresence units for around A$500,000 ($413,700).

Two small Australian ISPs have accused incumbent Telstra and Optus of discouraging churn by improperly delaying the transfer of broadband customers.
