VT iDirect (iDirect), a company of Vision Technologies Systems, announced Tuesday it has conducted LTE cellular backhaul tests with SpeedCast International which resulted in a higher than 400-Mbps throughput.

iDirect says lab tests with SpeedCast demonstrated GTP/LTE traffic transmitted over a single iDirect SatHaul terminal at speeds over 350 Mbps downstream and 90 Mbps upstream.

The demo leverages iDirect’s DVB-S2X technology, which enables aggressive data rates for SpeedCast’s managed service offering - designed to extend reach of mobile networks.

SpeedCast CEO Pierre-Jean Beylier says this proof-of-concept is critical in helping SpeedCast achieve a leading position in cellular backhaul provisioning and helping mobile operators extend the reach of their services via satellite connectivity.

Meanwhile, SpeedCast has awarded new services contracts with Telesat to add the South Atlantic beam on Telstar’s new 12 Vantage satellite to increase its global network coverage of high-speed throughput satellites (HTS).

Telstar’s new 12 Vantage satellite adds HTS capacity over the North Sea, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean.

SpeedCast is now using a South Atlantic Ku-band beam of Telstar’s 12 Vantage satellite to serve vessels operating in remote environments off South America’s east coast and between South America and Africa.
