Thai broadband provider Interlink Telecom has contracted Alcatel-Lucent to supply Agile optical networking equipment for a network upgrade.

Alcatel-Lucent will deploy a DWDM system with a Photonic Server Switch platform for the upgrade.

Interlink plans to use the vendor's Wavelength Tracker technology to monitor its network for performance, reliability and availability.

In the first phase of the rollout, Alcatel-Lucent said it will deploy the equipment in 42 stations in eastern and southern Thailand, including Bangkok and Phuket.

“We want to maintain our reputation for 99.998% network availability and as a result needed to deploy the highest-quality solutions,” Interlink managing director Nuttanai Anuntarumporn said.

“Following extensive trials we are very pleased to work with Alcatel-Lucent to meet the growing high-speed connectivity demands of our customers.”

The operator has deployed its network along Thailand's railways and major road routes connecting to neighboring Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Malaysia.
