Juniper Networks leads the pack among the top tier of router and carrier Ethernet switch providers in terms of operator customers' vendor selection criteria, according to IHS Markit.

A new survey from the research firm found that Juniper rated highest in four out of five of operators' top manufacturer selection criteria, including the top criterion - product reliability.

The exception was in the price-to-performance ratio, where Huawei took first position with Juniper in second.

IHS Markit also asked operators to name leaders in next-generation routing technologies, and found that Cisco ranked first in 100GE, followed by Juniper and Nokia.

“Juniper, Cisco, Huawei and Nokia excel at delivering on all the criteria operators consider to be most important,” IHS market executive director for research and analysis, carrier networks Michael Howard said.

“All four companies met operators' expectations in the carriers’ top vendor selection criteria, which are product reliability, price-to-performance ratio, service and support, technology innovation, and security.”

The four companies were also found to lead in other measures, including unaided awareness, aided awareness, and equipment installed and under evaluation. The vendors also ranked at the top when survey respondents were asked to name leaders in other next-generation routing technologies including vRouter and IP data center interconnect.
