Japan's KDDI grew its net profit for the first nine months of its financial year by 15.4% to 471.4 billion yen ($4.17 billion), on the back of rising mobile services revenues.

Operating revenue for the period between April and December last year grew 6.8% to 3.52 trillion yen. Mobile revenues grew by 31 billion yen - mainly due to increased value-added ARPU – leading to a 15.4% rise in domestic communications revenues to 775.7 billion yen.

For the third quarter, mobile revenues grew 1.7% to 449 billion yen, and the company added 25.66 billion mobile users between its own au mobile brand and the MVNO services provided by subsidiaries.

Subscriptions to KDDI's au Smart Pass subscription content, data storage and coupons service meanwhile grew 7.5% year-on-year to 15.07 million. Last month, KDDI introduced the new Smart Pass Premium offering additional offers for members and advanced security functions.

Based on its performance for the first nine months of the fiscal year, KDDI has revised its projections for the full year. The company now expects to report an operating income of 910 billion yen, up from the initial forecast of 885 billion.

But KDDI's forecasts for net profit and operating revenue remain unchanged at 540 billion yen and 4.7 trillion yen respectively.
