Japan's KDDI has reported a 30.6% year-on-year increase in net profit for the nine months ending in December to 351 billion yen ($2.98 billion), thanks in part to solid mobile gains.

Operating revenue grew 5.4% to 3.352 trillion yen, thanks in part to a 62 billion yen increase in mobile communications revenues.

During the December quarter, the company added 780,000 subscribers to its au mobile network. Handset sales for the quarter were 2.72 million.

As of the end of the period, the company had 42.4 million au subscribers, 7.1 million UQ Wimax customers and 3.4 million FTTH subscriptions.

ARPU for the third quarter grew by 10 yen year-on-year to 4,250 yen. Voice ARPU declined by 110 yen to 1,840 yen, but data ARPU was up 220 yen to 3,460 yen.

The company ended the period with nearly 10 million au wallet subscribers and 12.05 million members of its au Smart Pass Android app bundle subscription service.

KDDI said it has achieved 80.1% of its consolidated operating income target for the full financial year, positioning the operator for its second straight financial year of double-digit growth.
