Device maker Motorola Mobility is planning a fresh round of redundancies that will take the total number of staff cut to 5,200 in the past seven months.

The firm plans to cut another 1,200 jobs in the US, China and India as part of its bid to return to profitability, the Wall Street Journalreports, citing an internal staff e-mail. The latest layoffs follow an announcement in August that 4,000 staff would be cut in a restructuring plan designed to reduce costs, a spokesperson explained.

Motorola Mobility continues to post operating losses despite being bought by Google in 2011 for $12.5 billion (€9.6 billion). The takeover was finally approved in May 2012, after Chinese authorities gave the deal the thumbs up.
