China Mobile could be the big winner in a move by Nokia Siemens to extend its TD-LTE technology to cover the 1.9-GHz frequency band.

The infrastructure vendor notes China Mobile, in particular, is likely to benefit from the decision, given the operator has specific plans to evolve its current TD-SCDMA network to cover both technologies in the 1.9-GHz band. However, NSN also states the move will offer benefits to all carriers with licenses in that frequency range.

“The expansion of our TD-LTE portfolio to the 1.9-GHz bands marks another step forward in Nokia Siemens Networks’ commitment to driving the TD-LTE ecosystem by supporting China Mobile’s strategy, and at the same time accelerating TD-LTE deployments globally,” Markus Borchert, president at NSN’s Greater China division, explains.

NSN is gearing up to trial TD-LTE in the 1.9-GHz band, with a view to commercializing the technology in the fourth quarter.
