NSN, Juniper to form carrier Ethernet JV

Nokia Siemens and Juniper Networks will form a joint venture to make carrier Ethernet equipment.

The partnership extends an earlier agreement to collaborate on Ethernet solutions. 

It will be headquartered in the Netherlands, and pending regulatory approval will commence operation in Q4, the companies said. Financial details were not disclosed.

The venture will sell a solution consisting of Juniper's MX series line of Ethernet routers, NSN's A-series carrier Ethernet switches and an end-to-end network management system.

The new JV aimed to deliver Carrier Ethernet for mobile backhaul, business and residential broadband, the companies said, promising "faster time-to-market for new revenue-generating services" and lower costs through improved network efficiency.

"With this solution we are expanding the breadth and depth of our relationship with Nokia Siemens Networks," said Kim Perdikou, an EVP at Juniper Networks.

The companies have a combined carrier Ethernet customer base of around 200 service providers.

The global carrier Ethernet market was worth around $17 billion in 2008, and is projected to reach $32 billion by 2013, research firm Infonetics said in April.
