PCCW Global and Madagascar's Telecom Malagasy (Telma) have signed the first international MPLS inteconnection for the African nation.

Under the terms of the deal, Telma's Ethernet and IP VPN coverage will be extended across PCCW Global's MPLS network, which spans 130 countries.

PCCW Global will in return gain greater access to Madagascar cities, including capital Antananarivo, PCCW said.

“This agreement is a critical element of our wider pan-African development,” PCCW Global vice president James Welch said.

“Interconnecting with Telma ensures that we can provide extensive connectivity to Madagascar and the rest of Africa at competitive cost and with faster provisioning times too.”

PCCW Global is the international operating division of Hong Kong Telecom. Telma is Madagascar's largest operator, has a 6,000km national fiber backbone and jointly operates the 10,000km Eastern Africa Submarine Cable System (EASSy).
