China Telecom promotes Yang Jie to CEO and chairman

China Telecom Limited, the listed arm of China Telecom Group, has announced the appointment of Yang Jie as its new chairman and CEO.

Previously Yang was the company’s president and COO. He has also been as serving as chairman and CEO in an interim capacity since the resignation of former chairman and CEO Chang Xiaobing, who was detained on suspicion of “severe disciplinary violations” in December.

Yang's tenure in the top job will run until the company’s AGM for the year 2016 to be held in 2017, according to a company statement released last week.

Yang Xiaowei, an executive director of the company, has taken over the role of president and COO from Yang.

Both appointments took effect on April 25, the company said.

AsiaSat names Zhang Yan China VP

AsiaSat has appointed Zhang Yan as vice president for China to lead operations and develop new business in the country.

She secedes Zhang Hai Ming, who retired from May 1 and continues to serve AsiaSat as a consultant.

Zhang Yan joined AsiaSat in 2008 as the chief representative of AsiaSat Beijing office and general manager of CITICSat, AsiaSat’s partner in China.

Akamai appoints Blumofe to lead enterprise, carrier division

CDN services provider Akamai Technologies has appointed Akamai executive Robert Blumofe as general manager of the company’s Enterprise & Carrier division.

Akamai’s Enterprise & Carrier Division is responsible for the creation and sale of products and services to help carriers operate a high-performing and cost-efficient network, and for major enterprises to improve the performance, cost, security and efficiency of their networks and applications for the increasingly mobile employee.

Blumofe will also continue to serve as executive vice president of the Akamai Platform organization, charged with responsibilities for developing and operating the distributed system underlying all Akamai products and services.

Commenting on the appointment, Tom Leighton, Akamai’s chief executive officer, said, “We are very fortunate to have such a proven and experienced leader as Bobby Blumofe. Bobby joins Rick McConnell and Bill Wheaton as general managers of our three divisions. Their contributions will be invaluable as we work to grow our traditional businesses, innovate rapidly in new areas, and strive to capitalize on emerging opportunities.”
