Thailand Q2 market: Dtac loses 1.2m subs

Thailand’s mobile Q2 figures are out and the surprise is Dtac losing half a million subscribers while everyone else continues to grow.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission published numbers that show AIS remains number one in the market with 39.4 million subscribers, an increase of 426k subscribers from Q1. Dtac remains number two with 25 million subs, losing 524k. TrueMove H is third with 21.5 million subscribers, an increase of 1.1 million.

AIS’ market share remains a dominant 45%, followed by Dtac at 29.4% and TrueMove at 23.5%. No separate numbers were reported for state telcos CAT or TOT which together make up the final 2.1% of the market.

Mobile Internet usage followed the same pattern though with AIS having a bigger lead at 53%, Dtac at 29.4% and TrueMove at just 17.7%

Prepaid ARPU was $4.77 (165 baht) while postpaid ARPU was $15.80 (546 baht). AIS’ prepaid:postpaid ratio was 85:15.

Fixed line Internet penetration stood at 31.04% of households or 6.39 million fixed lines. True continued to be the market leader with 38.4% of the market followed by TOT and TTT Broadband (Jasmine).
