Thai state owned operator TOT may need to extend its application deadline for hiring a new president, due to a shortage of qualified applicants.

The operator put out a call for applications last month, but so far only three candidates have expressed an interest, a company source told the Bangkok Post.

A first glance none of the applicants meet the qualification requirements for the role. The company is seeking a candidate with the experience required to help turn around its operations, so the role has significant requirements.

A selection committee will meet on Monday to evaluate the candidates, but if none are found to qualify, TOT may extend the application process for another month, the source told the paper.

Selection criteria for the role include a strong background in the Telecom and IT industries, as well as a background in state enterprises.

TOT is searching for a candidate to replace Yongyuth Wattanasin, who resigned in August. The operator is meanwhile making progress with its turnaround plan by exiting unrealistic investment projects, the source said, and expects to have swung back to profit for 2014.
