Telekom Malaysia has signed a contract to provider fiber backaul to support U Mobile's LTE rollout.

Under the deal, U Mobile will make use of the TM Next Gen Backhaul (NGBH) service in central, southern, eastern and northern Malaysia.

The nine year-arrangement is designed to give U Mobile access to fiber infrastructure to support future network capacity demands, and allow the operator to accelerate its 4G deployment.

“As a data centric telco we have introduced many market defining products that are aligned with the mobile internet trends to our consumers in the past few years,” U Mobile CTO Too Tian Jeng said.

“We will continue to invest in our network to ensure our customers enjoy the best user experience in the market. We are glad to partner with TM as their technologies are able to support our network capacity demand.”

The TM NGBH is a nationwide carrier-neutral point-to-point backhaul connectivity network optimised to support 4G services. It provides backhaul connectivity of up to 1Gbps per site.

TM EVP for global and wholesale Mohamad Rozaimy said the deal is in line with the company's goal of becoming the preferred partner for end-to-end connectivity requirements in Malaysia.

“Such collaboration will help to avoid unnecessary duplication of network infrastructure and it is a strategic move by mobile operators to be more operationally efficient,” he said.
