Singapore's UTAC Holdings, a semiconductor testing and assembly services provider, has opened an office in Nagaokakyo City in Kyoto, Japan.

The company said this is a strategic move to support existing and new customers, and to expand its business in one of the largest automotive and consumer electronics semiconductor markets in Asia.

Such move follows the establishment of the partnership with Panasonic last June, which includes the acquisition of three Panasonic testing and assembly facilities in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.

The acquisition resulted in Panasonic becoming one of UTAC’s key customers and enabled UTAC to enlarge its manufacturing footprint and scale as well as diversify into new industry segments.

The three newly acquired facilities — in addition to existing UTAC facilities in Thailand, Singapore, China and Taiwan — enable UTAC to offer a wide range of test and assembly services and geographical locations to customers in Japan.

“We have established a direct sales presence in Japan to capitalize on our relationship with Panasonic and further grow our business with new Japanese customers,” said John Nelson, CEO of UTAC.

“Through the Panasonic acquisition, UTAC has inherited a talent pool who understands the quality and supply demands of Japanese customers,” said Nelson. “UTAC will use these resources to expand our business and relationships in Japan.”

The new office in Japan extends UTAC’s sales presence to 12 geographies including the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
