Messaging platform WeChat passed the 600 million monthly active users (MAUs) mark as of Q2 2015.

This is an impressive 9.3% jump from 549 million MAUs in Q1 2015 as previously reported, and a 37% growth from the same quarter the year before.

“We are excited to witness the increasing interest mobile messaging application users have in our platform,” said Poshu Yeung, the vice president of Tencent's international business group.

“These figures are a testament to our strong belief in the future of communication, and we are continually dedicated to delivering a holistic user experience for our users,” noted Yeung.

Unlike the strategy adopted by rival platforms such as WhatsApp, which has attempted to focus on core messaging and only gradually rolling out new capabilities, the WeChat platform had been adding new features at a furious clip.

Aside from basic messaging services such as text, voice, and social messaging, WeChat today also offers social sharing, videos, as well as brand pages and a marketplace that is available to Official Accounts.

In Singapore, WeChat has collaborated with brands such as ZALORA, LAZADA, Easy Taxi, and Shangri-La through its Official Accounts, enabling users to book a hotel stay, call a cab, and shop all through one single platform.
