In a rain-disrupted, drama-filled encounter where momentum swung wildly and pressure exposed nerves, Gujarat Titans edged past Mumbai Indians in a one-over shootout to top the IPL 2025 table on Tuesday night.

There was a little bit of chaos when we came in to bat after the rain. But always good to have a W beside your name. The powerplay was tricky with the wind and rain — felt like a Test match for a while.
Gujarat, chasing 156, were cruising at 107/2 after 14 overs when rain halted play for 20 minutes. Gill (43) and Rutherford (26) had them well ahead of the DLS par. But on resumption, Mumbai struck back with four quick wickets — Bumrah, Boult, and concussion sub Ashwani Kumar triggering a collapse to 126/6.
It was hard keeping an eye on the DLS target. The pitch was slow, the rain made timing difficult. We had to pick our moments.
With Mumbai on top and time slipping away, another spell of rain almost sealed Gujarat’s fate — the Titans were behind the par score at the scheduled close. But a 30-minute extension gave them a final shot: 15 runs needed off one over.
Rahul Tewatia struck a four, Gerald Coetzee launched a six, and a no-ball from Deepak Chahar shifted the momentum. Though Chahar dismissed Coetzee with the scores level, a misfield and missed run-out on the final ball gifted Gujarat victory.
A lot of emotions. We were way ahead, then behind, and finally back again. Wins like this carry you through a tournament like the IPL.
Earlier, Mumbai were restricted to 155/8 thanks to a disciplined effort by Sai Kishore (2-34), Rashid Khan (1-21), Arshad Khan (1-18), and Siraj (1-29), despite a 71-run stand between Will Jacks (53) and Suryakumar Yadav (35).
The result pushed Gujarat to 16 points, level with Royal Challengers Bengaluru but ahead on net run rate. Mumbai, with 14 from 12 matches, must now win both remaining fixtures and rely on other results to reach the playoffs. The loss also ended their six-match winning streak.
Gill, however, refused to look too far ahead. “We’re not playing for first or second place — just focusing on giving our best every match.”
Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians 155/8 (Jacks 53, Suryakumar 35; Sai Kishore 2-34, Rashid 1-21) lost to Gujarat Titans 147/7 in 19 overs (Gill 43, Buttler 30; Bumrah 2-19, Boult 2-22, Kumar 2-28) by 3 wickets (DLS Method).
