On Sunday, 13 July 2025, the third chapter of the five-part epic that is the Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES will unfurl on the streets of Durban, promising a symphony of speed, sweat, and soaring dreams.

Durban’s 10K race is more than just a run — it’s a drag strip of destiny, where the fleet-footed chase not just glory, but a mountain of motivation: a combined R1 610 000 prize purse and the blazing allure of SA Athlete Prize Incentives unlike anything seen before.

Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and the visionary behind the Series, captures the atmosphere best:

Michael Meyer
The first two events of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES in 2025 delivered truly world-class and nail-biting performances.

And what performances they were — Adriaan Wildschutt turned the Gqeberha streets into his personal runway, launching a blistering 27:28, setting not just a new SA 10km road record, but the tone for the entire series. His feat was a collision of talent and timing, rewarded handsomely with R200 000: R30 000 for crossing the line first, R120 000 for tearing past the 27:30 mark, and a record-busting bonus of R50 000.

Like a lightning bolt across the Cape skies, Kabelo Mulaudzi lit up the Mother City in 27:49, his personal best earning him R70 000 in total. The men weren’t alone in rewriting the record books — Glenrose Xaba, with the power of a gale and the grace of a gazelle, stopped the clock at 32:00, ending an eight-year drought for South African women at the Cape Town leg of the Series. She too netted R70 000 and redefined what was possible for women runners in the country.

Michael Meyer
It’s fantastic to see South African athletes continuously raising the bar. We’re witnessing times being broken that many once thought were out of reach... Durban — fast and flat — is the perfect next battleground.

Durban’s route — a ribbon of potential laid between Masabalala Yengwa Avenue and the iconic Golden Mile — beckons the continent’s finest to fly. The course isn’t just a road; it’s a canvas, where records are painted in seconds and meters.

And there’s fuel aplenty for those willing to burn rubber: The SA Athlete Prize Incentive Programme in 2025 offers a ladder of rewards, with bonuses cascading down from dizzying heights:

❇️ Men breaking the 28-minute barrier begin cashing in, but those cracking 27 minutes pocket a R200 000 bonus.

❇️ Women clocking sub-32:08 tap into incentives, while those dipping under 30:23 soar away with the same R200 000 bounty.

❇️ Layered atop this is the R50 000 cherry for anyone shattering the SA 10km record — an honour awarded to the fastest South African, regardless of race leg.

So far in 2025, R330 000 in SA Incentive Prize Money has already found new homes — trophies of triumph for Wildschutt, Mulaudzi, and Xaba.

And Xaba, SA’s reigning 10km queen, carries the fire forward:

Glenrose Xaba
The incentives are very important to me because they’re directly linked to performance times. The better my time, the better my chances of competing internationally. Breaking my own record would be a dream come true — I’d be the happiest woman alive.

As Durban waits beneath the shimmer of July skies, the stage is set. The stakes are high. The records are trembling. And the runners? They’re ready to fly — like meteors chasing the edge of possibility, leaving trails of fire in their wake.
