Marcus Rashford has joined Aston Villa on an initial six-month loan that will last until the end of the season. The deal includes an option for Villa to sign Rashford permanently for a pre-agreed fee, which is believed to be £40 million.
The Midlands club will pay the majority of Rashford’s wages during his loan spell, potentially rising to 90 percent of his £325,000-a-week salary depending on performances.
Rashford took to social media to say goodbye to the club he has been with since he was eight years old after completing the transfer.
‘I would like to thank Manchester United and Aston Villa for making this loan deal happen. ‘I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me but Aston Villa was an easy decision – I really admire the way that Aston Villa have been playing this season, and the managers’ ambitions. I just want to play football and am excited to get started. ‘I wish everyone at Manchester United all the best for the rest of the season.’
Rashford, who came through the United academy, made his debut under Louis van Gaal at the age of 18 in 2016. Since then, he has scored a total of 138 goals for Manchester United across all competitions. Prior to his departure from Old Trafford, Rashford had missed the last 12 matches under new head coach Ruben Amorim.
