The incident occurred last August when the player went on holiday to Monaco and visited two nightclubs before deciding to get behind the wheel of his Rolls Royce.
The former Manchester United forward was then stopped by the police at the Place d'Armes, and they requested a breathalyzer test, which showed he had an alcohol level of 1.01 mg per liter of exhaled air or more than 2 g of alcohol per liter of blood.
Memphis Depay received his sentence from a Monaco court on Wednesday. He was given a four-month suspended sentence, fined €9,000 (£7,500), and banned from driving in Monaco for two years.
After the sentence was delivered, Depay admitted to the charges and issued an apology on Instagram
'I would like to apologize here.' Last summer, during my vacation in Monaco, I made a mistake and decided to drive home after having a drink in a restaurant. I should have gotten into a taxi instead, but I didn't. 'That's why I want to apologise and take full responsibility for my actions. 2024 was a year of lessons and I will definitely learn from this.
Memphis Depay played for Manchester United, known as the Red Devils, from 2015 to 2017. During his time at the club, he made 53 appearances and was signed by manager Louis van Gaal. Although he scored only seven goals, the Dutch international was part of the United squad that won the FA Cup, Europa League, and League Cup. In 2017, he left to join Lyon and later had stints with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
