Millions of football fans worldwide will be in for a treat when the most prestigious competition begins in Doha, Qatar, as the World Cup symbolizes the pinnacle of the sport for both players and spectators. After placing third in the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals and missing out on qualifying for Russia in the 2018 tournament, the Netherlands, or Holland, as they are still often known, will compete in the 2022 tournament.

However, things have changed for them since then. Led by a younger breed of talent, they finished first in their world cup qualifying group, winning seven of their ten games. They also made it to the last four of the UEFA Nations League after playing admirably well by defeating some of the continent's heavyweights, including Belgium and Poland. The Dutch squad will thus deserve vindication when the championship preliminary stage games begin on November 21 and continue until the finals on December 18, 2022, having regrettably finished the second three times while making it to the World Cup final.

Netherlands

Given the strength, caliber, and skill of the various teams that make up Group A, the Netherlands is favored to finish first in the group and advance against Senegal, Qatar, and Ecuador, which are propagated as underdogs. The Dutch national team is well-oiled and includes some of Europe's club stars. A team that loses match day one of the World Cup has traditionally had less than 10% of such units advance from their group. Thus, it becomes crucial for the Dutch to defeat Senegal, The Lions of Teranga, and the current holders of the just-finished African Cup of Nations, who have a squad full of great players on the opening day of play.

The 32 nations competing in this year's World Cup include the Netherlands, Senegal, Ecuador, and the host nation, Qatar, who will be making their World Cup debut. These nations are seeded in Group A along with the host nation. Each country will face the other three teams in a round-robin style for these four teams. The three group stage games count toward the group rankings, and in the event of a tie in the points between two teams, points difference serves as the first tiebreaker before goals are scored. The single-game Round of 16 will be played with the group winners and runners-up, based on total points, moving on to the knockout stage, where a winner will be determined in the championship game.

Best World Cup Predictions

Holland is one of the contenders for the best national football team that has never lifted a World Cup trophy. The team's longest World Cup stretch began in the 1990s after making appearances in the 1974 and 1978 World Cup finals, where they placed second. West Germany trounced the Dutch in Round 16 of the 1990 World Cup, ousting them. Additionally, the Netherlands' teams lost to Brazil in the quarterfinals and semifinals in 1994 and 1998, correspondingly, and Croatia in the third-place play-off. When they returned in 2006, Portugal routed them in Round 16. The squad made it to their third World Cup final in 2010, where they fell to Spain. They avenged this defeat at the 2014 World Cup, where they defeated Spain 5-1 and earned their first-ever third-place finish. However, they were unable to attend the Russian competition in 2018. Their recent track record is remarkable. They will have been more confident of advancing this year after a very simple qualification run-through.

Louis van Gaal,

Louis van Gaal, a manager and former player for the Dutch national team, was born on August 8, 1951. At the club level, he managed Ajax, Barcelona, AZ Alkmaar, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United. With 20 significant awards under his belt during his managing career, he is among the most accomplished football managers on the planet.

Before beginning his coaching career, Van Gaal was a midfielder for Royal Antwerp, Telstar, Sparta Rotterdam, Ajax, and AZ. Van Gaal started his coaching career as an assistant at AZ before moving on to assist at Ajax, where he eventually assumed the head coach position in 1991. The club won the UEFA Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and three Eredivisie championships while he was in charge. He came to Barcelona in 1997 and won one Copa del Rey and two league championships. Following his appointment, Van Gaal took over the Netherlands, but the team could not advance to the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Before returning to AZ and winning the club's second Eredivisie championship, he spent a brief period at Barcelona again.

He was hired by Bayern Munich in 2009, and during that time, he won the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, and advanced to the UEFA Champions League finale. He then returned to manage the Netherlands for a second time and guided the country to third place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. That summer, he was appointed by Manchester United, where he won the FA Cup before being fired there in 2016. He later returned to coaching after announcing retirement because of what he termed 'Family reasons' and was chosen to lead Holland for the third time, where he is to lead the team to Doha.

The Netherlands, presently ranked seventh in the FIFA world rankings and graced with talent and expertise, is considered a contender to win the gold this winter. Can they surpass predictions once more? A resounding YES! This is the answer because, in football, absolutely nothing is impossible. In their last two World Cup appearances, they came with a bit of anticipation and won silver and bronze, correspondingly. The Group B runners-up of England, the USA, Iran, and Wales, would be the opponents of the Netherlands if they were to win Group A. The Dutch have previously thrashed Wales, the favorites to finish second in Group B, strengthening their hopes of advancing further into the competition play-offs and eventually winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
