Uruguay at the Qatar World Cup 2022

One of the four South American teams who made it through to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup Finals scheduled to hold on 20th November is Uruguay. La Celeste qualified for the 22nd edition of the men's football tournament having secured 3rd position in CONMEBOL's World Cup qualifiers, 17 points adrift of 1st place holders Brazil. With a total of 28 points wrapped up from an 18-game round-robin encounter, the South Eastern South American team booked their place in the finals for the 14th time in history. Uruguay At The World Cup For All Times

The Sky blue team hosted and won the maiden edition of the FIFA World cup in 1930 and picked a second against Brazil in their backyard in 1950. Uruguay has failed to win the title since then but on a positive note though, they are 15 times Copa America winners, their last being in 2011 when they defeated Paraguay. Who Is Uruguay's Head Coach?

After leaving Inter Miami in January, Diego Alonso was hired as Uruguay's head coach to replace Oscar Tabarez, who was relieved of his duties following Uruguay's poor run in Copa America 2022. The 46-year-old who has a wealth of experience at the club level took charge as at the time Uruguay was one point behind the top four in CONMEBOL's qualifiers and deservedly, he guided the team to the world cup. His longest spell as a manager was at Mexican club side Fc Pachuca where he led them to Championship in 2016.
