Adtran said it has enhanced its OPTI-6100 multi-service provisioning platform (MSPP) with the addition of advanced Ethernet modules to address growing demand for mobile backhaul applications.

The company said the solution eliminates bandwidth bottlenecks often encountered with traditional backhaul networks while maintaining the resiliency and synchronization capabilities mobile operators have come to expect.

When combined with the Total Access 5000 multi-service access and aggregation platform and Adtran\'s HDSL solutions, the OPTI-6100 delivers a comprehensive portfolio of solutions addressing Optical Ethernet, SONET, Ethernet-over-fiber, Ethernet-over-copper, Ethernet-over-TDM (time-division multiplexing) and T1-based backhaul options for both wireline carriers and mobile operators.

Michael Howard, principal analyst at Infonetics Research, said Adtran\'s approach to Ethernet-based backhaul with the OPTI-6100 provides a "quite flexible, cost-effective platform designed for service reliability and availability."
