AIS selects Nokia Siemens for 3G rollout

Thailand’s AIS has contracted Nokia Siemens to provide equipment for the carrier's nationwide 3G rollout.

NSN will provide its base stations and packet core solutions for the rollout by AIS subsidiary Advanced Wireless Network (AWN) .

The carrier this week revealed plans to soft-launch 3G services from Monday.

“Implementing a 3G network is very crucial for us,” said Saran Phaloprakarn, VP for network strategic planning for AIS.

AIS has allocated around 63 billion baht ($2.1 billion) towards the rollout of its 3G network between 2013 and 2015.
