Alcatel-Lucent has won the largest share of a tender to build the Evolved Packet Core for China Mobile's 4G network.

The vendor said it has been contracted to supply 24% of China Mobile's EPC network.

Under the deal, Alcatel-Lucent will supply its 7750 Service Router – Mobile Gateway, its 9471 Wireless Mobility Manager and its 5620 Services Aware Manager.

Alcatel-Lucent was one of nine vendors to win business in a September China Mobile tender for 207,000 TD-LTE base stations. Alcatel-Lucent won 11% of this tender.

In a statement, Alcatel-Lucent CEO Michel Combes said the contract is an important demonstration of the company's Shift Plan to transition into a specialist IP networking vendor.

“As China Mobile builds the world’s largest 4G LTE network, Alcatel-Lucent is providing its expertise in IP networking and ultra-broadband access, the focus of our Shift Plan,” he said.
