Amara launches 4G+ service in Yangon

Myanmar's Amara Communications has launched its data-only LTE service in Yangon under the brand name ananda.

The operator is offering an unlimited data plan priced at 35,000 kyats ($25) per month, which is launching with a free mifi pocket hostpot and a 4G+ ananda SIM as well as a month of unlimited data.

As well as the portable mifi device, ananda is offering a fixed 4G+ router supporting up to 30 Wi-Fi enabled devices simultaneously.

Besides the unlimited service, the operator is also offering top-up plans including one week of unlimited data for 10,000 kyats per month, 7.5GB of data for one month of 5,400 kyats and 60GB of data for 60 days for 38,000 kyats.

Amara Communications secured a 4G license on the 2600-MHz band in 2016, and launched a brand campaign in February. The company plans to cover 25 townships in Yangon.

Amara next plans to expand the service to Mandalay, followed by seven other areas

The company was established in 2011 to provide network rollout services including tower construction, operation and maintenance. Amara is a subsidiary of Myanmar's IGE Group of companies.
