When Lin Huan Chuan, a Longdong Bay Park lifeguard, found a mobile phone adrift on the sea he didn't expect much.

But he charged it, called a contact from the phone, and was soon able to return the phone to Yu Hsin-leh, a snorkeler who had lost it four days and 37 kilometers earlier.

Reuters reports that the phone worked swimmingly.

It wasn't a magic phone impervious to water - it was stored in a waterproof case that protected the phone on its journey. Still, the phone made it past the rocky, craggy Taiwanese shoreline to a protected shoreline intact.
