Companies lack clear directives in maximizing the use of big data and cloud solutions even as they recognize the value that these assets have in driving significant business impact, according to Skillsoft.

To understand how cloud solutions and big data are driving the industry, Skillsoft polled more than 650 decision makers and learners from 300 large and medium-sized organizations spanning 20 sectors across 13 countries in Asia Pacific.

Findings show that reduced costs were cited as the top benefit of cloud solutions among decision makers, with 68% keen to have more training for cloud solutions.

The demand is even higher – 75% - for learners who are hungry to improve their knowledge and skills; with 57% stating that training would enable them to perform better at their role, and 65% stating that training in this space would contribute to their own career advancement.

While decision makers and learners both displayed in-depth understanding of cloud solutions, both groups reported low levels of understanding of big data, particularly in the area of executing a big data-driven initiative -- 67% of decision makers and 75% of learners said so.

One of the key reasons for the lack of investment in training programs is budget constraints. While 54% of decision makers are currently investing in cloud solutions, 21% of them cited budget availability as a key issue.

Budgeted spend is also limited, with only 22% of decision makers allocating between 1-10% of their budgets to cloud solutions training.
