Taiwanese operator Asia Pacific Telecom (APT) and Ambit Microsystems reportedly plan to spend a combined TW$2 billion ($65.7 million) rolling out 4G base stations and equipment.
The companies have launched a tender for a base station rollout project, Want China Timessaid, citing sister publication Commercial Times.
Vendors including Nokia, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson and Huawei are all reportedly bidding for the tender.
APT and Ambit have arranged to join forces for a combined 4G rollout, but their merger application was rejected by regulator NCC, in part due to a roaming dispute involving APT and Taiwan Mobile.
APT had been using Taiwan Mobile's network for 4G services, but the NCC has stipulated that APT and Ambit build their own 4G network without making use of other operators' infrastructure.
The NCC has instructed APT and Ambit that they each must roll out 2,000 base stations by the end of the year as stipulated in their original business plans.
Ambit Microsystems is an affiliate of manufacturing giant Hon Hai (Foxconn). The company bid for and secured a 4G license during Taiwan's $4 billion spectrum auction in 2013.
