Despite sluggish progress these past years, the Asia-Pacific location-based services (LBS) market is seen generating $771.9 million in revenue by 2010, more than double $353 million in 2004. According to In-Stat, LBS has been touted as 'the next big thing' in mobile data services, even though bullish revenue projections for the services have yet to materialize. Hampering the growth of the market are slower-than-expected implementation of more accurate location determination technologies, consumer privacy concerns and operators' focus on deploying more proven mobile data services. The interest in LBS, however, is very high.
