The winners of our first Readers' Choice Awards cover the full gamut of telecom equipment suppliers, with 15 vendors taking home awards in 17 categories.

Cisco and Huawei each received two awards - Cisco was honored as the top Broadband and Carrier Ethernet Vendor while Huawei took home the Wireless Broadband Network and NGN Infrastructure Vendor of the Year awards.

The awards, announced on December 8 at a ceremony in Hong Kong, were presented by eight telecom operators - comprising AT&T, BT, Cable & Wireless, China Unicom, Hutchison Telecommunications, Pacnet, SmarTone-Vodafone and Verizon.

Nominations were made by 78 analysts and senior telco executives in early October.

Nominations were evaluated on market data from research firms and the specific input from our panel of telecom experts. Telecom Asia's editorial team narrowed down the list of nominations to three to four finalists in each of the categories, then opened the voting to our online subscriber base of service providers across Asia. Voting was closed at the end of October.

In addition to 15 Readers' Choice Awards, two Special Editor Recognition Awards - Network Innovation of the Year and Best LBS Application of the Year - were presented. Nominations for these were made by analysts, with the Telecom Asia editorial team voting for the final winners.
