Bridgewater Systems has launched a mobile usage management app for iPhone and BlackBerry handsets.

The customizable app allows subscribers to track their SMS, voice and data usage in real time as well as set limits on mobile usage and roaming controls. One aim of the program is to prevent bill shock.

Called myPolicy, it is designed as a branded value-added service for mobile operators.

Bridgewater senior vice president David Sharpley said it empowered smartphone users to personalize their mobile usage and experience.

"Users remain concerned about unexpected charges and bill shock. They are looking for ways to personalize and control their mobile data usage and experience," said Analysis Mason principal analyst Peter Mottishaw.

"Mobile operators that can meet these requirements will be rewarded by loyal customers and increased take-up of mobile data services."

The app will soon launch on additional smartphones, Bridgewater said.
