BT plans to roll out a business version of its Fusion fixed-mobile convergence service next year to corporates in Asia, according to an executive.
Rocky Mahajan, global director of mobility at BT Global Services, says the company launched Corporate Fusion in eight countries in Europe and this summer will extend it Asia, North Europe and North America by summer 2008.
Corporate Fusion will allow enterprise users to switch calls between cellular (GSM) or WiFi to PBX using a dual-mode WiFi/GSM handset. Mahajan suggested this could result in increased productivity and improved customer services.
"FMC is not about cost savings. Two third of our customers deploying FMC show that the number one benefit is productivity," he said.
Currently there are already five dual-mode GSM/WiFi handsets for Corporate Fusion. Given Asia is more supplicated in handset adoption, Mahajan said the company will plan to roll out more models that fit Asian enterprises, but declined to unveil details.
