GSM networks should evolve, as they will remain the foundation of cellular technology for the years to come. Capacity increase for voice and data, OPEX saving, spectral efficiency improvements and service continuity when leaving 3G/4G coverage are the main challenges.

Nortel is addressing the market with a set of features maximizing BSS network efficiency cost effectively, as it address already deployed infrastructure. The main evolution is based on Evolved EDGE, pushing forward extended GERAN capabilities for an economic and relevant alternative to 3G coverage extension, while building the bridge toward LTE best in class technology introduction.
