(Xinhua via NewsEdge)China's largest mobile operator China Mobile generated 59.88 billion yuan ($8 billion) net profit in the January to September period 2007, up 29.8% year on year.
The company also reported 258.465 billion yuan ($34.5 billion) in business turnover, up 21.5% year on year, according to its financial report.
The company attributed its rapid and healthy development to the rapid development of China's economy, booming telecom market and rational competition environment.
In the period, China Mobile maintained rapid growth in customer number by exploiting rural market. It received around 5.4 million new customers every month, bringing the total number to 349.66 million. Through tariff structure adjustment, the company saw its traffic volume go up 45.2% year on year and the usage of short-message service up 43.2% year on year.
China Mobile said the strong growth in new customer, new services and new traffic volume has become the major momentum contributing to its business growth.
China Mobile also said it will continue expanding in China's rural market, expanding value-added services, and upgrading the network, so as to maintain a sustainable business growth.
