China mobile VAS market passes $6b

The mobile value-added services market in China passed the $6-billion mark, growing 44.5% in 2005. According to Analysys International, 2G services accounted for the bulk of the revenue at close to 86.2%, or $5.2 billion. Revenue from 2.5G services, on the other hand, reached $833.6 million. In terms of user numbers, the research firm said the highest growth was posted in the caller ringback category at 151.7% or almost 55.4 million subscribers. Active MMS users reached 16.8 million in 2005, representing 140% growth from the previous year.
