Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced China Unicom selected Huawei’s LampSite indoor small cell solution to enhance in-building mobile network coverage inside office buildings, shopping malls and hotels.
China Unicom has already deployed LampSite in the cities of Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Chongqing. The solution enhances existing network coverage to improve user experience and grow the operator’s business. The deployment also marks an important milestone for significantly accelerating large-scale UMTS and LTE development in China.
Most industry estimates state that about 90% of data traffic today is generated indoors, especially in “hot zone” environment like office buildings and shopping malls where the deployment environment is complex.
Traditional DAS (distributed antenna system) solutions for meeting these challenges have become a bottleneck for operators looking to provide better user experience in these areas. Traditional solutions are high-cost and do not easily expand or evolve to meet changing requirements.
LampSite provides targeted indoor coverage performance enhancements to provide a better mobile broadband experience, increases business productivity for enterprises, and cultivates development of new data services and new subscribers.
The LampSite system provides comprehensive in-building mobile network coverage with an array of small radio access units (pico Remote Radio Unit, or pRRU) installed on the ceiling on every floor of an office building.
LampSite is designed to be scalable, flexible, and easy to deploy and manage compared with traditional DAS. It supports multiple modes and bands, MIMO and provides higher spectrum efficiency, thus realizing a seamless service experience indoors as well as outdoors. The solution is designed to help operators realize long-term gains with a one-time site deployment and investment.
To date, LampSite has also been commercially deployed in the UK, Norway and other parts of China.
