On March 23, China Unicom held the "'Speed upgrade and tariff reduction” promotion meeting and inaugural ceremony of 4K ultra HD (UHD) industry alliance in Jinan, Shandong. China Unicom and major domestic manufacturers, service providers and content providers of 4K equipment attended the inaugural ceremony.
ZTE, as the strategic partner of China Unicom, became a key member of the 4K UHD industry alliance, and cooperates with China Unicom to jointly boost the development of the 4K industry.
Comparing to mainstream HD videos, 4K UHD videos have clearer, smoother and more colorful image effect. Therefore, a user can enjoy spectacular UHD video effect at home as he/she is in the IMAX theaters. In the opening ceremony, ZTE demonstrated its 4K UHD video service, which won high praise from the ceremony attendees.
Attending the opening ceremony, Hua Xinhai, ZTE’s general product manager of multimedia video communication product business unit, said ZTE would continue to assist China Unicom in developing its 4K UHD video service and strengthen cooperation on 4K value-added services.
China Unicom is expected to complete reconstruction of its optical network within this year. It will provide more users with a brand new 4K UHD video experience.
ZTE provides China Unicom with the E2E 4K UHD video solution that supports H.264 to ensure efficient transmission of the 4K video streaming. The solution uses a private network for live 4K transmission to guarantee highly-reliable content distribution, and features the 4K QoS monitoring function to ensure high-quality video. It also uses CDN devices with high performance and ultra-large storage to safeguard the high quality of the 4K video service.

Since 2014, ZTE has been assisting Sichuan Telecom in developing its 4K UHD iTV service, making Sichuan Telecom’s customers the first in the country to enjoy such service. In March 2015, with the help of ZTE, Jiangsu Telecom successfully put its 4K UHD live iTV service into trail use, and built the world-first E2E 4K platform that supports H.265. In May 2015, Telkom Indonesia started to use ZTE's 4K UHD solution. In November 2015, ZTE helped Shandong Mobile to successfully put its 4K UHD service into commercial use. In January 2016, Shandong Unicom officially launched ZTE's 4K service and put the service into commercial use.
