Ciena has announced it expects to complete the acquisition of Nortel's metro Ethernet division by the end of March.

The assets to be acquired generated revenue of $798 million for the first nine months of Nortel's FY09, Ciena said.

Meanwhile, Ciena recorded a net loss of $53.3 million last quarter - more than double its losses from a year ago - due to an estimated $27 million in acquisition charges from the purchase. Revenue grew 5% to $175.9 million over the same period.
