Cloud computing is altering the landscape for both sides of the investment ecosystem -- buyer and seller. But what exactly does cloud computing mean to the traditional brokerage firm? Likewise what is the value proposition of cloud computing to the investor?

This feature looks at the challenges that individuals and brokerages must understand before they can make informed decisions about cloud computing and its future for investors.

An investment is an asset or item that is purchased with the hope that it will generate income or appreciate in the future. In finance, an investment is a monetary asset purchased with the idea that the asset will provide income in the future or appreciate and be sold at a higher price.

So what does this have to do with cloud computing?

Some investment opportunities often require being at the forefront of information, being able to have the right information at the right time. And once the decision is made, to be able to execute a purchase or sale without losing time (and money).

Unfortunately at the point of decision making it usually means everyone else is trying to do the same thing -- conduct a transaction. High transaction volumes during peak trading periods can lead to delays in accessing information, and in some cases delays in executing transaction.
