The number of IT vacancies decline as Hong Kong's economic growth starts to shrink, but pros with CRM skills are still in hot demand according to recruitment consultancy Robert Walters.

Despite general caution across the IT hiring market, IT professionals with CRM, consumer behavior or customer insight project experience remain highly sought after to help retail companies develop targeted marketing campaigns, increase sales revenue and retain existing clients, said Matthew Bennett, director at Robert Walters in Hong Kong.

He added that IT practitioners with in-depth domain industry knowledge along with strong communication and people management skills remain in highest demand.

The situation is different in one of China's largest cities Shanghai. According to Robert Walters, salaries are increasing, especially for application related positions such as SAP/Oracle consulting and ERP project management.

'Demand for IT professionals remains high particularly across the FMCG (fast moving consumer goods), retail and medical industries, said Carter Yang,' managing director at Robert Walters in China.

The firm also observed that local candidates in senior positions are now likely to be paid a premium over their international counterparts.
